It was a good weekend for the boys returning to the Four State Challenge in Columbus Ohio after going 1-3 and scoring only 6 goals last year this time around facing Columbus Vikings, Nashville Jr Flyers and Erie Jr Otters.
The team got off to a slow start and Columbus got the best of the boys defeating Belle Tire 3-1 with a late empty-net goal in game 1.
The boys bounced back with a solid 3-1 win over a strong Nashville team then dominated the Erie Jr Otters with a decisive 7-2 win on Sunday morning leaving them in a tie with Nashville for first place overall.
Sunday afternoon's championship game was back and forth and ended in a 2-2 tie in regulation after a late goal by Belle Tire. After a scoreless overtime period, the Belle Tire boys were unable to beat the Nashville goalie in the 3-man shootout and Nashville's final shooter scored on an impressive top-shelf bullet.
Despite the loss, it was a good weekend for the team after an up-and-down start to the season.
Welcome to our returning players and our 7 new players to the Dearborn Belle Tire 14UAA 2019-2020 Season. We say goodbye and good luck to our former players who have moved on to play for their high schools and our '06 players who dropped back to play in their age group.
We have a talented, skilled and hard-working group that is sure to have a great season again this year.
